This doesn’t mean that you should always change your blog, sometimes things need to be kept as it is, it will mostly depend on what you need and want.

How to improve your blog:

1. Optimize your blog for SEO (Search engine optimization)

Site speed is as important as SEO, search engines will penalize you if your website’s loading speed is slow. Site speed is crucial if you want to attract a lot of people to your blog.

A great way to check how fast your website’s speed is, is to visit Google’s PageSpeed Insights. Here you can insert your website’s domain and Google will show you how your website is performing and what needs to be fixed or improved on.

Site speed is not only important for search engines but also for the people using your website, people will most likely avoid or exit your website if it takes too long to load. I know I prefer a site that loads quickly.

if you want to improve your blog, then site speed will be essential.

3. Improve website navigation

Site navigation is another thing that you can consider changing or improve on. There are a few things you can consider in terms of site navigation, including:

  • Having a sitemap;
  • Having a search bar;
  • Adding text links; and
  • Adding links to important pages in your menu and/or footer.

You should make sure that your site can be navigated easily; your site users should be able to find information as quickly and smoothly as possible.

4. Secure your website

Ask any blogger and they will tell you, website security is important. You don’t want people hacking and stealing your data, that’s why you need to take precautions. This may take the form of installing a security plugin such as Wordfence.

This is a FREE plugin that will help you protect your website against any unwanted hacks and infiltrations. There are a few other things you can do to help protect your site, such as:

  • Using a 2-factor authentication;
  • Changing your admin username;
  • Using SSL to encrypt data; and
  • Regularly backing up your website.

5. Ensure that your site is mobile friendly

If you want to improve your blog, then you need to consider mobile friendliness. More and more people use their mobile/smartphones to surf the web, it is much more convenient than using a computer to go online.

I know I use my smartphone almost 85% of the time when I’m surfing the web, I only use my computer in certain situations. Google will also rank your site higher if your site is more mobile friendly, which is always a good thing.

6. Fix broken links

Nothing can be more irritating than clicking on a link and finding out it doesn’t work, especially if the link leads to important information. Make sure you routinely check any broken links on your website before posting new content.

Broken links can happen at any time, the reason behind this is, is because the link’s URL may have changed or no longer exist.

7. Check your grammar

Grammar is important, we all make mistakes when writing. Just make sure you fix most of the most noticeable problems, such as correctly using the words “your and you’re”. If you are struggling with your grammar, you can use Grammarly to help and guide you when writing.

There is both a FREE and paid version, but the FREE version will work perfectly. The great thing is you can add it to Google Chrome and always have Grammarly by your side when you need assistance.

8. Update your blog’s theme and plugins

Always make sure that your blog’s theme and plugins are updated to the newest version. This is especially important with regards to WordPress blogs, it can cause a lot of problems when your theme or plugins are not up to date.

Updates are also extremely beneficial to your website, as they usually include new features that can enhance your website.

9. Set up Google Analytics

Make sure you are tracking your audience on your blog, this can help you tremendously. Google analytics helps you understand:

  • What pages your audience is visiting;
  • What gender they are;
  • Where they come from;
  • How long they stay on a page and much more.

I love Google Analytics, it helps me to create better content that is focused on my current audience, as well as helping me create a better posting schedule to fit in with my audience and when they are the most active.

10. Use an Anti-Spam plugin

Don’t get me started on spam! Spam has been a problem for so long. Luckily, we don’t have to worry about it. With most online problems, there are also solutions. The solution to people spamming you on your WordPress blog is Akismet.

This plugin checks your comments and contact form submissions against a global database of spam. This can save you a lot of time and effort. No one wants to spend all their time checking their comments and contact form submissions for unwanted spam. Just use a plugin and your life will be a lot easier.

I hope these 10 things will help you to improve your blog and assist you in managing your blog more effectively.  Most of the time if you have a problem on your blog, there will be a solution to solve it. Good luck and Happy Blogging!
