Blogging can be quite frustrating in the beginning for a newbie, trust me I know what you’re going through. You feel so lost at times and have so many questions you want to be answered. The uncertainty is frustrating and can make blogging seem like hell.

Don’t worry, it does get better. I have answered a list of questions that you as a newbie or aspiring blogger might have in this post to help you overcome or minimize some of the frustration you might face.

These are exactly the type of questions I had during my starting phase as a blogger and I’m pretty sure you have the same questions and I hope you find value in this post.

Let’s get into them:

Which blogging platform should I use?

This is probably the first question an aspiring blogger deals with. There are a lot of platforms to choose from, but choosing the right platform depends on your needs and goals. You should use a platform that will offer you the features you’ll need to turn your desired blog into a reality.

For example, if you want to monetize your blog through ads then an option like wordpress.com won’t work because you can’t monetize your blog through wordpress.com.

You’ll have to do some research to determine which platform will offer you not only the best features but also the features you’ll actually need to achieve your blogging goals.

In my personal opinion if you’re focused on serious blogging with the goal in mind of monetizing your blog and turning it into a potential brand or business, then I suggest you use a platform such as WordPress.org together with Elegant Themes.

Bear in mind that there are a few differences between wordpress.org and wordpress.com which you can read about in this post: What is the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com?

Other popular blogging platforms include:

What should I blog about?

Something I really struggled with in the beginning was deciding what to blog about. If I can give you some advice… blog about something you are really passionate about or something you’re good at or know well. If you decide to blog about a topic you don’t know or don’t like, your blogging journey could become really difficult.

It’s just easier to write about something you like or have knowledge of. I’m sure you can write a hundred blog posts on your passion.

Don’t go for a topic just because it’s popular and because you hope it will make your blog succeed faster. I’ve tried writing about something I know nothing of and it was a nightmare.

The time spent on research and coming up with what to write about was the most difficult thing because I had no clue what to say about the topic.

As soon as you write about something personal like a skill or passion, blogging seems a lot easier and actually fun. Who wouldn’t want to talk or write about something they love, every day?

Where can I find free images to use on my blog?

As a new blogger, finding answers to questions like these are quite difficult and Google’s algorithms aren’t always giving you exactly what you’re looking for.

What if I told you that you don’t need a graphic designer to find or create beautiful images for your blog or social media posts. I’m not talking about simply searching for a specific image on Google and using it as your own.

That is something you shouldn’t do because most of those images probably belong to someone else. Using it as your own without crediting them could lead to trouble.

So where can I find free images that I can use on my blog and social media posts?

Where can I create my very own images without having to have any graphic design skills?

Can I blog about everything?

You certainly can but it might be a bit more difficult to build an audience because a person might have no reason to care about your thoughts specifically. For example, if someone wants to read up on sports, why not just go to an expert who covers it?

It is better to focus on a specific niche. This way you can build a defined audience. Be the “go to guy” for something specific rather than a person who covers everything.

It’s difficult to stand for something when you cover everything, making it hard for people to actually remember who you are and what you do. Rather niche down and be specific is what I suggest you do.

If you want to just have fun and blog about everything, you can do that too, there are no rules!

What should I call my blog?

This is probably one of the biggest and most frustrating things I faced during the starting phase of my blog. Coming up with a name for your blog is not an easy task and you’re never sure whether the name you come up with will work. There’s always going to be uncertainty and risk, that’s normal.

If I can give you the best advice I’d say go with your gut but bear in mind the following:

  • Choose a name that is brandable;
  • Come up with a name that relates to what you blog about in some way or form;
  • Make sure that people can actually pronounce the name you choose;
  • Go for something unique which doesn’t exist yet or isn’t used by someone else; and
  • Lastly, make sure you like it.

I hope this post helped you in some way. These are the type of questions I faced and I’m sure you probably dealt with one of them. I will be working on a couple of posts that answer questions like these that beginners face, so keep your eyes peeled if you want more great content and tips!
